Honors

Three Anderson staff members have been awarded the 4th annual Abe Ackerman Staff Excellence Award. Andrea Stein, director of academic personnel, Marta Klock, financial aid director and Ruben Silva, facilities manager of the executive education program, were presented earlier this year with the award. The award was created by Anderson faculty, staff and alumni as a memorial to the late Abe Ackerman, a beloved Anderson School employee who died in 1997. The winners were selected from a pool of 38 nominees…. Chemical engineering Professor Sheldon K. Friedlander received the Christian Junge Award from the European Aerosol Association in recognition of his pioneering research. Friedlander is the author of “Smoke, Dust and Haze: Fundamentals of Aerosol Behavior,” a textbook used for introductory physics classes at universities worldwide…. The Academic Senate’s Committee on Diversity & Equal Opportunity has awarded the Fair & Open Academic Environment Award for 1999-2000 to Josephine Isabel-Jones, professor of clinical pediatrics, for her valuable service in the recruitment and admissions of disadvantaged students to the UCLA Medical School; to graduate student Juan Muñoz in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies for his involvement in the development and execution of the UCLA summer academic bridge program for migrant students; and Ronni Sanlo, director of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Campus Resource Center, for her extraordinary efforts in support of fairness, tolerance and social justice not only within the UCLA community, but at the city, state and national levels.
