BUREAUUndergrad Admissions – A computer hacker disabled UCLA's new Admissions Decision Web site for several days beginning March 29, soon after it went online, preventing thousands of anxious students from finding out whether they were admitted. … Jonsson Cancer Center – An experimental pill for a common form of adult leukemia continues to show great promise in early studies, according to two articles in the April 5 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. … School of Law – Law Professor Cruz Reynoso will be leaving UCLA to hold the new Boochever and Bird Chair for the Study and Teaching of Freedom and Equality at the UC Davis School of Law.

MINORITY FROSH ADMITS SHOW SLIGHT INCREASE

DATELINE UC SYSTEMWIDENew Treasurer – The UC Board of Regents recently appointed David H. Russ, public markets managing director for the University of Texas Investment Management Company, its new treasurer and vice president for investments. … The senior boom – California must prepare now for the rapidly approaching point when the state's huge baby boom generation will begin surpassing age 65, according to a report by two leading gerontologists, UCLA's Fernando Torres-Gil of social welfare and UC Berkeley's Andrew Scharlach, along with a colleague at the University of Iowa. … On paper, on screen – The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation has awarded UC a $670,000 grant, following a smaller planning grant last June, for a two-year study to explore how scholars and libraries can best integrate and preserve collections of scholarly journals that are published in both print and digital formats.
