A New York native, Caravello received a master's degree in library science from UCLA in 1978. She was head librarian at the California School for Professional Psychology in Los Angeles before coming to UCLA in January 1981.
What's the most unusual question you ever fielded at the Reference Desk?
I rarely see reference questions as unusual; it's more the variety of questions that can seem odd. A recent session included dynamite fishing in the Philippines, nomadic architecture in Sudan, pottery that depicts a scene in "The Iliad" and a list of all known languages.
Which living person do you most admire, and why?
Historian Deborah Lipstadt, for standing up for the truth and memory of the 6 million Holocaust victims when she was sued for libel, unsuccessfully, by a Holocaust denier in England. |
