Jimmie L. Turner
Assistant Vice Chancellor, Graduate Programs
Turner, whose Ph.D. is in psychology, joined the faculty of UCLA's Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences in 1976. He left Westwood briefly to become associate director of faculty development at CSU Long Beach, but returned to UCLA in 1988 as acting assistant research director for the Center for Afro-American Studies. He assumed his current position in 1994.

Who are your favorite musical groups?
The Eagles, Kris Kristofferson. Right now I'm enjoying the soundtrack for "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

What words do you most overuse?
"Incentivize." I don't even know if it's a word, but I use it to mean "to provide incentives."

If you hadn't chosen your current occupation, what would you have chosen?
I'm a closet artist, mostly painting and sculpting. Now I'm into carving tree trunks into biomorphic, totemic figures.
