A California native, Jenkins received her B.A. in history from UCLA in 1974. She has served in her current position since July 1987, commuting from her pre-World War I ranch house in Sierra Madre. “It seems as if I’ve always worked at UCLA,” Jenkins said.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Wine.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Figuring out how to drywall and plaster.

Who are your heroes in real life?
People who persevere to help others.

What is your favorite type of music?
Late 16th-century French.

What is your most treasured possession?
It’s not good to have one; if we name it, we might lose it.

What is your favorite journey?
The one I haven’t taken yet.
