MEET UC CHIEF

Rather than host a formal inauguration ceremony, UC’s new president, Robert C. Dynes, will be meeting and talking with faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends in a series of three Web chats over the coming weeks and on a systemwide inaugural tour that will include a stop at UCLA. He’ll also be meeting with local elected officials and representatives of business, media and other areas to hear their perspectives on UC. A Web chat focusing on staff/faculty issues is set for Oct. 14. To install a java plug-in that you’ll need to participate, go to: http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/newpresident/chatinvite.html. “We have many challenges to face, particularly in the current state budget climate in California,” said Dynes in a message to the UC community. “But I am greatly optimistic about this institution’s future, and I am eager to begin working together toward that future.”

HEADS UP

UC faculty and staff will soon be receiving 2004 health benefits information in the mail in preparation for Open Enrollment in November. To inform employees and prepare them for decisions they will be making about health care, UC has put together information on the rising cost of health-care costs, the new medical plan rates for employees and how UC is helping to keep cost increases down for employees in lower salary ranges. Visit http://atyourservice.ucop.edu and click on “2004 Health Plan Information for UC Employees.”
