EQUALITY IN EDUCATION

UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education and Access recently launched “Equal Terms in LA: The Struggle for Educational Justice, 1954-2004,” an interactive online series of public dialogues with urban youth, parents, teachers, community advocates and policymakers, commemorating the 50-year anniversary of the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. Through a range of interviews, online commentaries, student-led “public histories” and video documentaries on the struggle for educational justice, the series examines Brown’s promise of education on “equal terms,” and whether its legacy remains alive today within Los Angeles-area schools and communities. CHANGES TO UC-MANAGED FUNDS

The UC Board of Regents on Nov. 19 approved three major changes in the UC-managed investment options that will go into effect April 2004. Among the changes made: The fund mix of the Multi-Asset Fund will be substantially changed, and the fund will be renamed the Balanced Growth Fund. Also, a new fund option called the Treasury Inflation Protected Securities Fund (TIPS Fund) will be offered both as a component of the new Balanced Growth Fund and as a stand-alone investment option. Finally, the Money Market Fund will be closed and merged into the Savings Fund. Employees and annuitants will receive more detailed information over the next several months.
