CHANCELLOR'S TOWN HALL

All staff are invited to attend the Chancellor’s Town Hall hosted by the UCLA Staff Assembly Jan. 29 from 11:50 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Northwest Auditorium in Sunset Village. Chancellor Albert Carnesale and Vice Chancellor of Finance and Budget Steve Olsen will discuss the state budget and its implications for the University of California and UCLA, as well as other issues vital to employees. Due to limited seating, send an e-mail to RSVP to: susan.corley@anderson.ucla.edu.

CHR TRAINING CLASSES

If your resolution for the new year is to make betteruse of your time at work and at home or to come up with a safe, but money-making, investment strategy, then Campus Human Resources can point you in the right direction in 2004. Among the many training classes being offered to employees this January is a time management workshop that will help you put together a plan to take the chaos out of your busy life. Or if you want guidance in developing an investment strategy or preparing for retirement, there are classes tailor-made for UCLA employees. For enrollment information and Training and Development’s latest catalog, go to www.chr.ucla.edu and follow the links.

CAMPUS CAR SHARE

Beginning Feb. 2, staff, faculty and students will be able to rent three new Honda Civic Hybrid cars on campus by the hour. The vehicles, offered through a new Transportation Services car-sharing program, are equipped with keyless entry and will be available at three sites: by the parking booth outside the Faculty Center and in structures 7 and 8. The hourly fee is $7.50, plus 35 cents a mile after the first 10 miles. The fee covers gas, insurance and “24/7” emergency service. Said Renée Fortier, Transportation Services director: “If you commute to campus by vanpool, public transit, bicycling or walking, you now have the option to rent a car from a campus location for just a few hours.” To rent, drivers must have a good driving record and join Flexcar, a nationwide company. The annual fee for Flexcar currently is $15 for UCLA participants. UCLA RideCard holders can receive a $10 rebate on Flexcar membership. When members make a reservation, they are issued a code to access the car. There are no lines and no paperwork, and users pay only for the time they use. For more information, go to www.transportation.ucla.edu or call (310) 794-7433.

NEW DIRECTORIES FOR 2004

To help meet budgetary constraints and still maintain quality of service, UCLA and the UC Office of the President have made changes to the systemwide and UCLA telephone directories. The new, smaller 2003-04 systemwide directory includes institutional and campus administrative listings, but not individual employee listings. Only 3,000 are being distributed systemwide. To request one, e-mail ucladir@cts.ucla.edu. This systemwide directory is online at www.universityofcalifornia.edu/directories/welcome.html. Since the UCLA Telephone Directory is also online and more up-to-date than the printed version, the new printed campus directory will not be distributed free, but can be purchased for $5 per copy. The cost may be recharged to a departmental account. Order at www.maildoc.ucla.edu or by contacting UCLA Mail, Document and Distribution Services at (310) 794-6371.
