James Muh
Director of Mail, Document & Distribution Services
Born in Taegu, South Korea, Muh migrated to Berkeley, Calif., in
1970 and graduated from UCLA with a psychology degree in 1984. “A
friend asked me to apply for a temporary position at UCLA’s
Mail & Messenger Service when I returned from spending a year
in Kyoto, Japan, studying the tea ceremony,” he said. “And
here I am with almost 19 years of service in the same department.”
If you hadn’t chosen your current occupation, what
would you have chosen?
Basketball coach or photographer.
What is your favorite journey?
Watching my daughters walk down the path of life.
What is the strangest package you’ve dealt with in
your job?
A box wrapped in brown paper addressed to Bill Clinton arrived when
he was here for an engagement. We called UCPD because the package
had signs of a bomb: no return address, too much postage and oil
stains. The police blew up the package, which turned out to be chocolate
chip cookies from an anonymous admirer. |
