A SHARED SPIRIT

Justice Cruz Reynoso, the first Latino to serve on the California Supreme Court, will receive the UCLA César E. Chávez Spirit Award April 29 at Covel Commons. A 6 p.m. reception will be followed by dinner and a program. Linda Alvarez of KCBS-Channel 2 will emcee. The award honors individuals who embody the principles, leadership and humanitarian qualities of the late labor leader. Past recipients include playwright Luis Valdez, actor/activist Martin Sheen, United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta, and Carlos and Deborah Santana of the Milagro Foundation. RUN WITH THE PREZ

THURGOOD MARSHALL LECTURE

The Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies will dedicate its annual lecture and dinner April 28 to the 50th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education. The 15th Thurgood Marshall Lecture and Dinner will feature guest speakers Kimberlé Crenshaw, a UCLA and Columbia University professor of law, and Constance L. Rice, attorney and co-director of the Advancement Project. Journalist Juan Williams of National Public Radio and Fox News Channel and author of “Thurgood Marshall: American Revolutionary,” will be the featured speaker. Larry McCormick of KTLA-TV will be the master of ceremonies. The event, which begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m., honors the legacy of the U.S. Supreme Court justice.
