THIS WEEK ON CAMPUS

Women’s achievements will be celebrated this week as part of the fifth annual UCLA Women for Change. Beginning today, the UCLA Clothesline Project will hang hundreds of T-shirts across Schoenberg Quad depicting stories of anguish, anger, isolation and humiliation caused by sexual or gender violence. Also today at noon at Schoenberg Plaza, there will be a discussion of the book “White Oleander” with author Janet Fitch. A student festival with performances and exhibits is set for May 12, beginning at 11 a.m. in Bruin Plaza. “Strong Women ... Big Sports” will highlight UCLA’s extraordinary women athletes on May 13 at 11 a.m. at the Los Angeles Tennis Center Clubhouse. The week of events wraps up May 15 with UCLA’s 8th Annual Women’s Leadership Conference. For details on these and other events, see www.women4change.ucla.edu.

A 5K TO SAVE THE DAY

Get your walking shoes on to help benefit the Child Life/Child Development program at the Mattel Children’s Hospital. Join the annual UCLA 5K Run/Walk May 16 in Bruin Plaza. There also will be a silent auction, carnival-type games, live bands and prizes. This year’s theme, Heroes Helping Heroes, salutes courageous children battling life-threatening diseases and the equally heroic efforts of the hospital staff and families. Register for $23 at www.uclarunwalk.org or pick up registration forms at Kerckhoff 413 or from organizers on Bruin Walk. Registration also will be available at the event.
