DAN FROOT

Adjunct Assistant Professor, World Arts and Cultures

Born in New York City and raised in Virginia, New Jersey and Connecticut, Froot received a B.A. in drama (directing) in 1982 from Bennington College in Vermont. He accepted a regular teaching position at UCLA in 2000; before that, he worked as a touring artist, making money by creating and performing dance/music/theater pieces. He also taught for short stints at colleges and universities around the country and overseas.

What is your favorite journey?
I love to walk in New York City without deciding where I’m going. When I come to a corner, I go in whatever direction the walk signal is flashing.

If you hadn’t chosen your current occupation, what would you have chosen?
I would have been a nutritionist and a consumer watchdog at the FDA.

What is your dream project?
To own and operate a performance space/bookstore/café.
