DANIEL SOLORZANO

Professor, Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, and César Chávez Center for Interdisciplinary Studies.

Once a high school social studies teacher at the Los Angeles County Juvenile Hall, he earned B.A. degrees in sociology and Chicano studies, master’s degrees in urban/multicultural education and educational policy. He received his Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate School in the sociology of education in 1986.

What is the best thing about being at UCLA?
Working with students, although I must admit Gilbert’s coffee mocha at the Faculty Center’s Playa Lounge is hard to beat.

Which living person do you most admire?
My wife Laura. After 20 years as a social worker, she returned to school at UCLA and earned her master’s degree in social welfare last spring.

What motto do you live by?
“They that instruct many to justice shall shine as stars for all eternity.” Book of Daniel 12:3.
