JORGE CHERBOSQUE

Co-director and psychologist, UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center

Born in Mexico City and raised there and in Acapulco, Cherbosque received a B.A. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and master’s and Ph.D. degrees from USC. Before coming to UCLA in 1986, he held many different jobs, including lifeguard, tour guide and executive coach to the top CEOs of international companies.

What is your greatest extravagance?
Being very spontaneous and traveling around the world without reservations. The last time I did it, I went to the World Cup soccer tournament in Japan.

What is the best thing about working at UCLA?
I tell people that the mission of my office is to change people’s attitudes from TGIF to TGIH (from Thank God It’s Friday to Thank God I’m Here). I love the people who work here and get a great sense of satisfaction helping them find their passions and talents.

What is your greatest achievement?
My ability to keep my optimistic view of human beings, despite the horrors we are exposed to in our daily lives.
