BRAGGING RIGHTS FOR THE YEAR

UCLA has captured the 2005 Lexus Gauntlet trophy in a yearlong athletic challenge with crosstown rival USC. After going head-to-head in 18 sports, including football, the Bruins clinched the 150-pound, pewter-gilded trophy and citywide bragging rights April 27 by outdistancing the Trojans at the Pac-10 Conference men’s golf championship. The win gave UCLA an insurmountable 60-40 lead over USC. The dual men’s and women’s track-and-field meet on April 30 gave the Bruins their last victory and finalized the Lexus Gauntlet score at UCLA 70, USC 40. The Southern California Lexus Dealers Association will present the trophy to UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero at a ceremony on May 16, tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. in Pauley Plaza, east of Pauley Pavilion. FEST FOR TWO-WHEELERS

UCLA will celebrate Bike to Campus Week May 16-21. Cyclists will be able to enjoy free bagels and beverages 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on May 16 between the Public Policy Building and LuValle Commons, on May 17 at the Court of Sciences, on May 18 at the Dental Breezeway, and on May 19 in Bruin Plaza. A free mini-course on bicycle safety will be held noon to 1 p.m. May 18 on the fourth floor of the Strathmore Building. Then on May 21, a comprehensive safety class will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 117 of the Strathmore Building at a cost of $5 per person. Register for both courses by e-mailing: tpastudent@ts.ucla.edu. Bike Fair 2005 will be in Bruin Plaza 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on May 19. Cyclists can get free mini-tune-ups on bikes, register their bikes and learn how to mount a bike on a bus. There will also be raffles and giveaways of bike gear.

THE SEASON KICKOFF

Season, mini-plan and group tickets for Bruin football games at the Rose Bowl will be available beginning May 16. Also, employees should save Oct. 8 for the 8th Annual UCLA Faculty & Staff Tailgate Party at the Rose Bowl. Tickets are $10 each (limit four per person) and include admission to both a pregame catered tailgate party and the UCLA vs. California game. Kickoff time has yet to be determined.
