YESTERDAY, TODAY, & TOMORROW

$2.2-BILLION SETTLEMENT

The UC, lead plaintiff representing a class of Enron investors who lost tens of billions of dollars, recently reached a $2.2-billion settlement with JPMorgan Chase, less than a week after announcing a $2-billion settlement with Citigroup. UC has now obtained more than $4.7 billion for Enron investors, including $2 billion from Citigroup, $222.5 million from Lehman Brothers, $69 million from Bank of America, $168 million from Enron’s outside directors and $32 million from Andersen Worldwide. Through the bankruptcy proceedings for the LJM2 partnership involved in the Enron scheme, UC will secure a distribution of approximately $32 million for investors.

FOR NEXT FALL

Beginning with Fall Quarter, the Registrar’s Office will require online submission of end-of-term grades through the MyUCLA Gradebook. Only final grade submittal is affected. This will not apply to the schools of Law, Medicine and Dentistry. The remainder of the Gradebook’s functionality will remain completely optional. Gradebooks must be accessed using a Bruin Online (BOL) ID and password. BOL accounts can be established online at www.bol.ucla.edu. Further details and guidelines will be supplied to faculty, teaching assistants and staff over the coming months.

GRAD STUDENT MAY JOIN BOARD

In July the UC Board of Regents will consider appointing UCLA graduate student Maria C. Ledesma the student regent for 2006-07. If appointed, she would become UC’s first Chicana student regent. A first-generation college student, Ledesma is a Ph.D. candidate in the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies. She received a master’s degree in education from Harvard and her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.
