The 2005 Festival of Sacred Music
launches Sept. 17 at Sunset Canyon’s outdoor amphitheater with a benefit concert that will reflect the rich intercultural and interfaith traditions that have created inspiring music and dance worldwide. Described as “one of the planet’s biggest and most intriguing world-music festivals” by The New York Times, this extravaganza will play out over 16 days and involve around 1,000 artists performing at 43 events from Santa Monica to Irvine. Bring a blanket or cushion to sit on the grass at Sunset Canyon under a harvest moon and enjoy a global sampling of music and dance from Tuvan (Siberia), Africa, Korea, Mexico, the Czech Republic and Thailand. 5 p.m. Cosponsored by the UCLA Center for Intercultural Performance. $25 for faculty and staff.
