New leader
Judy Olian, dean of the Smeal College of Business Administration at Penn-sylvania State University, will succeed Dean Bruce Willison at the Anderson School of Management beginning Jan. 1, 2006. “Dr. Olian is a respected scholar and innovative leader with a deep commitment to the type of interdisciplinary education that is a priority at the UCLA Anderson School of Manage-ment,” Chancellor Albert Carnesale said. “She brings many assets that will serve the school well as it continues its growth among the nation’s leading business schools.” As dean of Smeal College, Olian led an ambitious fund-raising campaign for a $68-million facility that opened this summer.
Salary plan
The Board of Regents will discuss in November whether the salaries of UC faculty and staff should be brought up to competitive market levels over time. The regents’ finance committee voted Sept. 22 to send a proposal to the full board that would increase salaries for all groups of employees to market levels over a decade, from 2006-07 to 2015-16. A study found that UC salaries generally lag behind the market median by an average of 15%. Another proposal would allow UC to augment senior leaders’ salaries in excess of $350,000 with private funds from donors.
