In Memoriam: Christopher Foote

A weekend of events beginning Oct. 14 will celebrate the life and scientific achievements of UCLA chemist Christopher Foote, who died June 13.

Foote, the foremost authority on the chemical reactions of singlet oxygen, had a lifelong interest in music. So a concert organized by Foote’s wife, UCLA College Vice Provost and Dean Judi Smith, will be free and open to the public. Performing some of Foote’s favorite music will be faculty and other musicians.

The program, “Christopher Foote: A Celebration of His Life,” starts at 5 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Faculty Center with a poster session of research by scientists associated with Foote’s group. That night, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Schoenberg Auditorium and include works by Bach, Scarlatti, Chopin, Wagner, Handel, Mozart and Bourland. On Oct. 15, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will host an all-day symposium that will explore the chemistry of oxygen. The symposium will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in CS24, Young Hall.
