In the Top 10
UCLA Medical Group has been identified as one of the top 10 Southern California physician organizations and one of the top 20 in California by the Integrated Healthcare
Association. The rankings are based on the physician organization’s
provision of recommended care, patient satisfaction and investment in information technologies that support quality care. “These groups, operating in an organized and integrated model, have distinguished themselves and raised the bar for other physician practices in California,” said Don Crane, president and CEO of the California Association of Physician Groups.
Scary times
With help from 300-plus UCLA student volunteers, more than 3,000 children from economically disadvantaged areas in Los Angeles will be able to trick-or-treat in a safe environment during the 17th annual All-Hill Halloween on Oct. 26. Students in UCLA’s residence halls are inviting children ages 5-10 to celebrate Halloween on campus. They will be bused to residence halls, where UCLA students will provide goody bags and act as tour guides, taking the kids up and down floors to get candy treats, visit haunted houses, play games and enjoy other Halloween activities.
Teaching awards
The UCLA Academic Senate’s 2005-06 Distinguished Teaching Award Program is now accepting nominations. The program is designed to celebrate and reinforce the enormous contributions made by outstanding UCLA scholars. The Committee on Teaching will name six Senate members, three non-Senate members (lecturer, clinical, adjunct) and five teaching assistants to receive cash awards in the spring for distinguished teaching. One candidate may
be nominated per category by each department, interdepartmental program or institute. Entries must be received by Jan. 19, 2006, for Senate members; Feb. 16 for teaching assistants; and March 16 for non-Senate faculty. Information and nomination instructions are available at: www.senate.ucla.edu/committee/cot/Teach.htm. If you have any questions or need assistance in assembling nomination materials, contact Boni Mendez at bmendez@senate.ucla.edu.
Innovative technology
The deadline for nominations for the 2006 Brian P. Copenhaver Award is Dec. 10. All UCLA undergraduate faculty (ladder and non-ladder) are eligible for this award, established to
recognize innovative use of technology in undergraduate instruction and to support the sharing of teaching experiences. Last year’s winners included faculty who developed a way for
students to do a neurology experiment digitally and who created a software tool that enables students to interact anonymously with their professors in real time during class. To download nomination forms or read interviews with current and past prizewinners, see www.college.ucla.edu/edtech. |
