Institute of Medicine
Three UCLA professors are among the 64 new members elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. The institute was established in 1970 by the National Academy of Sciences to honor professional achievement in the health sciences and to serve as a national resource. The three new members from UCLA are Jared M. Diamond, professor of geography in the UCLA College; Robert M. Kaplan, professor, Department of Health Services in the School of Public Health; and Jeanne Miranda, professor in residence, psychiatry and behavioral sciences in the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.
