Katherine Baicker, a recently appointed professor of public policy at the School of Public Affairs, has been selected to serve on President Bush’s Council of Economic Advisers. She was sworn in Nov. 17 by White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card in a ceremony held in the Dwight D. Eisenhower Executive Office Building.
Yahya Rahmat-Samii, an electrical engineering professor, was the recipient of the 2005 URSI (International Union of Radio Science) Booker Gold Medal for outstanding contributions in his field, including fundamental contributions to reflector antenna design and practice, near-field measurements and diagnostic techniques, among other achievements. Attending the Oct. 23 medal presentation in New Delhi was Abdul Kalam, president of India.
Melany Dela Cruz was recently selected the assistant director of the Asian American Studies Center after an extensive national search. Her responsibilities include internal management of the center, extramural grants administration, and coordination of fellowships and research grants of the Institute of American Cultures. She will also be involved in the Census Information Center and other research and public projects.
