The International Association of Art Critics (AICA) has recently named the Hammer Museum’s 2005 exhibition “THING: New Sculpture From Los Angeles” the best thematic museum show nationally. The award recognizes the best group exhibition of the year organized by a museum in the United States. Each year, AICA’s 400 U.S. members vote for the best exhibitions in a variety of categories. “THING” was organized by a curatorial team led by James Elaine, curator of Hammer Projects, with co-curators Aimee Chang, exhibition coordinator and assistant curator at the museum, and Christopher Miles, an independent curator/critic and assistant professor at California State University, Long Beach.... Isidro Salusky has been appointed associate dean for clinical research in the David Geffen School of Medicine. He will coordinate the clinical research activities with the basic science research activities supported by Senior Associate Dean for Research Leonard Rome. He will also work with the faculty, the Human Subjects Protection Board and the compliance officer in the hospital.... Television writer-producer Steven Bochco, Turner Broadcasting chairman Philip Kent, pay-television magnate Harlan P. Kleiman, and chairman and chief executive officer of MGM Harry Evans Sloan have been recently named to the executive board of the School of Theater, Film and Television. Said Dean Robert Rosen: “The participation of people of this caliber at the school’s executive level will help us further our mission of providing a solid grounding for tomorrow’s media makers.” ... UCLA’s International Institute recently received a pledge of $1 million from the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation to endow a permanent chair in Israel studies.
