Names & Faces

Linda Sarna, professor at the School of Nursing, was presented with a 2005 Media Award at the 32nd American Academy of Nurses Annual Meeting for her leadership of the Tobacco-Free Nurses Initiative media campaign. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who use media to increase public awareness of the value of nursing. The campaign to promote the role of nurses in tobacco control was praised for disseminating research findings through national trade and mainstream media.

Robin Farias-Eisner has been appointed chief of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He completed his Ph.D. in molecular biology through the STAR Program at UCLA and is the principal investigator of a federally funded research grant.

 

Mitch Chang, associate professor of education, was recently recognized as one of 10 scholars named a 2006 Emerging Scholar by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine (formerly Black Issues in Higher Education). Chang is the author of “Compelling Interest: Examining the Evidence on Racial Dynamics in Colleges and Universities.” It was cited in the 2003 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in a case involving the University of Michigan and race-sensitive admissions practices.
