$1M gift honors prof
The School of Law has received a $1- million gift from an anonymous alumnus to establish the David A. Binder Chair in Clinical Law. This chair will honor the innovative, pathbreaking contributions of Professor David Binder to the field of clinical legal education. Considered to be among UCLA’s best teachers, Binder was recently named the 2006 recipient of the William Pincus Award by the executive committee of the Association of American Law Schools Section on Clinical Legal Education. The $1-million gift will support the teaching, scholarship and service activities of a distinguished clinical faculty member.
More funds available
The Center for Community Partnerships announced its annual program to support engaged scholarship by UCLA faculty and staff. Starting this year, support will be increased to a maximum of $75,000 in total for a period of up to two years. The center is accepting proposals from faculty and professional staff for collaborative, community-based initiatives, research or projects that address children, youth and families; arts and culture; and economic development in Los Angeles. This year, projects located in the neighborhoods of South Los Angeles and Pico-Union are especially welcome, although support will be offered throughout the region as in past years. Staff and faculty must partner with a Los Angeles County community-based organization with valid nonprofit status as designated by the IRS. Go to http://la.ucla.edu.
