Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Professor James Liao has been awarded an Honorary Epistar Chair Professorship for 2006 by the College of Engineering at National Tsing Hua University in Hsin-chu, Taiwan. In January, Liao delivered a keynote address at the Second International Conference on Biologically Inspired Approaches to Advanced Information Technology at Osaka University in Japan.

Urban Planning Professor Donald Shoup’s book, “The High Cost of Free Parking” (2005, American Planning Association), has been named a winner in Planetizen’s Fifth Annual Top 10 Books List, 2006 Edition. Representing decades of study, the 700-plus-page book highlights the many ways that a system of free parking has hidden costs and negatively impacts the way we live.

Dan Page, assistant director of Health Sciences Media Relations, received two 2006 Bulldog Awards for excellence in media relations and publicity related to coverage of the UCLA Division of Neurosurgery. He received gold awards in the “Health, Medicine and Fitness” and the “Under $10,000” categories. Bulldog Awards are presented annually by Bulldog Reporter, a unit of Emeryville, Calif.-based Infocom Group.
