Feds deem campus a great workplace for commuters
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation recently recognized UCLA as one of the Best Workplaces for CommutersSM. The campus earned the honor for providing staff and faculty with outstanding commuter benefits that meet the agencies' National Standard of Excellence and reduce traffic and pollution.
This designation is considered a mark of excellence for environmentally and employee-friendly employers.
“We are very pleased that UCLA, through its sustainable transportation programs, has been given this honor,” said Renée Fortier, director of UCLA Transportation Services. “Our wide array of cost-effective commuter options benefits both employees and the environment by offering alternatives to driving alone — as well as reducing global-warming greenhouse gas emissions,” said Fortier, who received a plaque signed by Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta and Assistant EPA Administrator Jeff Olmstead.
Transportation Services currently operates 140 commuter vanpools carrying more than 1,500 staff, students and faculty daily.
