Poetry and punditry: Bruin authors make the festival scene
They’ll be on stage enlightening audiences at panel discussions, signing books for readers and waxing poetic before appreciative listeners.
Look for Emeritus History Professor Joyce Appleby at 10 a.m. Sunday in Moore 100 talking about “History: The Discoverers.”
On Saturday, mystery writer Tod Goldberg, who teaches creative writing at UCLA Extension, will join in on the discussion, “Not Your Usual Suspects,” at 4 p.m., Dodd 147. Goldberg was a 2002 Los Angeles Times Book Prize finalist.
Panelist Harryette Mullen, professor of English, will discuss “Poetry: the Magic of Words” Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Young Hall, C24. A 2002 finalist for the National Book Award in poetry, she will also read her poetry at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Poetry Corner.
Diana Wagman, who teaches in UCLA Extension’s Writers’ Program, will speak on a panel on “The Illusive City: Looking for L.A.” Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Dodd 147.
Writer Carolyn See, emeritus professor of English, will discuss “Fertile Ground: Building a Creative Community” 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Franz 1178.
English Professor Stephen Yenser will read his poetry 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the Poetry Corner.
Walter Goldschmidt, emeritus professor of anthropology, will sign his books Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Oxford University Press booth No. 180.
And don’t miss beloved Coach John Wooden, who will be signing his books in Ackerman Union, B-Level, on Saturday, from 1-4 p.m.
