Two departing faculty members were honored at School of Law commencement ceremonies May 12 in Dickson Plaza. Kenneth Karst is retiring after 41 years of teaching law at UCLA. He has won campuswide and school teaching awards. He was twice elected Professor of the Year by graduating classes. UCLA alumna Susan Westerberg Prager, who will become the 13th president of Occidental College, was the longest-serving dean of the law school and built the law school’s first major gifts program, which made possible the new UCLA Law Library…. At his retirement celebration last month, Joseph Nunn, longtime director of field education in the School of Public Affairs, received a Certificate of Special Recognition from U.S. Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) for his “outstanding and invaluable service to the community.” Stuart Kirk, chair of the Department of Social Welfare, praised Nunn for developing the field program “into a model program that has gained local support and national recognition.”… Microsoft Research has named Assistant Professor of Computer Science Eddie Kohler to its Microsoft Research New Faculty Fellowship Program. His work aims to create a more understandable, robust and secure foundation for systems programming. Kohler will receive $200,000 over two years and will collaborate with some of the top researchers at Microsoft Research.
