A campuswide group is forming for policy-covered managers or those who aspire to be. The Administrative Management Group, sponsored by Campus Human Resources, is open to all, said Julia Sanchez, CAO for the Department of Earth and Space Sciences and one of the organizers. It’s an opportunity for professional growth and development to create a forum for effective communication between managers and other professionals, she said. A reception will be held Sept. 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Faculty Center. Assistant Vice Chancellor Lubbe Levin will give the keynote address. To RSVP, e-mail premaw@college.ucla.edu. Stein ends agreement with VSP

The Jules Stein Eye Institute is ending its agreement with Vision Service Plan (VSP), the vision insurance plan for many UC employees, as of Aug. 31. Jules Stein Eye Institute accepts many medical insurance plans contracted through the UCLA Medical Group. If staff or faculty would like to continue to receive vision care at the institute, they should consult their medical insurance plan to see if coverage is provided. For a complete listing of VSP providers, visit www.vsp.com or call VSP at (800) 877-7195.

Rewards of the road

The California Environmental Protection Agency’s Department of Toxic Substances Control has recognized Fleet Services as a model pollution prevention vehicle service and repair facility. By instituting training programs and anti-pollution practices, campus shop facilities have reduced the generation of hazardous waste and pollution from vehicles. Transportation Services also recently took top honors from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority as part of its Metro Rideshare Diamond Awards. UCLA took the Outstanding Group Achievement Award for its vanpool program and Outstanding Marketing Program for its efforts to inform UCLA staff and students of all their commuting options.
