VOL. 27. NO.1 AUGUST 15, 2006

What have you been doing this summer?

By now, faculty and staff have eased into that slower-paced rhythm of life that comes only in the summertime when the livin’ is easy, as the George and Ira Gershwin tune says. Or maybe not. UCLA Today’s Daniel Hernandez found out what a few Bruins have been up to.

What’s the highlight of your summer so far?

“Going to LACMA. I’ve been three times already. But the best time was when I saw the ‘Adele Bloch-Bauer I’ painting because we have been following the entire saga.… It later sold for $135 million. And did I mention I got in for free?”

— Diane Childs, librarian for education, applied linguistics, and library and information science

“I haven’t done much this summer because of classes, but I am hoping to go to Dodger Stadium more often and to travel to the East Coast and up north.”

— Alan Rozzi, faculty fellow in political science

“I took a road trip to San Francisco with dorm friends. An entire week of not worrying about school!”

— Jessica Tran, fourth-year neuroscience major

“Last week I went to my high school’s 10-year reunion. I was expecting something big, but it was actually pretty uneventful.”

— Jessica Patton, undergraduate counselor for undeclared majors in the College of Letters and Science

“I went to the Galapagos Islands for a conference, and then I stayed a little longer for myself. They have amazing animals there.”

— Roberto Peccei, vice chancellor for research and physicist
