Marc Suchard, assistant professor of biomathematics and human genetics, and former graduate student Benjamin Redelings have won the 2006 Mitchell Prize, jointly sponsored by the American Statistical Association’s Section on Bayesian Statistical Science, the International Society for Bayesian Analysis and the Mitchell Prize Founders’ Committee. The award recognizes an outstanding research paper that uses Bayesian analysis to solve an important scientific dilemma…. Nursing Professor Linda Sarna received the Oncology Nursing Society’s Excellence of Scholarship and Consistency of Contributions to the Oncology Literature Award. The award recognizes the impact she has made using the written word to share her research findings, to describe content related to the care of cancer patients and support the professional development of colleagues…. Daniel Solorzano, associate director of the Chicano Studies Research Center, has received the UCLA Department of Education’s Distinguished Teaching Award. The honor is given annually to a faculty member whose contributions to teaching are considered by both students and faculty to be exemplary, innovative and creative.
