Not to be Missed

On Jan. 31, more than 1,000 college campuses will rally around the challenge of global warming with "Focus the Nation," a student-led event to gather support for environmental advocacy and political change.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bruin Plaza, green vendors and businesses, campus organizations and departments will stage a sustainability fair.

At noon, Chancellor Gene Block and Director of UCLA's Institute of the Environment Tom Smith will open a symposium in Ackerman Grand Ballroom focusing on sustainability. A plenary session will follow from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Interactive workshops from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. will bring together politicians, faculty, staff, community members and students to discuss global climate change and current environmental initiatives.

At 8 p.m., a screening of Leonardo DiCaprio's "The 11th Hour" will be followed by a panel discussion. All events are free and open to the public.
