Water polo wins UCLA's 101st NCAA title
The team that won UCLA's record 100th NCAA title in 2007 cemented the university's nationwide lead in NCAA titles by snagging another one this year.
The women's water polo team won its fourth consecutive and sixth overall NCAA title on Sunday evening, defeating USC, 6-3, in the championship match at Stanford University's Avery Aquatics Center. The victory was UCLA's 10th national title in women's water polo and UCLA's 101st overall NCAA title, more titles than any other university.
Bruin seniors Gabrielle Domanic, Brittany Rowe, Courtney Mathewson, Jillian Kraus and Kamaile Crowell finished their careers with four NCAA titles and a pair of undefeated seasons.
The Bruins, who finished the season 33-0, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, playing tough defense, particularly on USC 6-on-5 opportunities. The Trojans shot just 2-of-12 on power plays in the contest.
