The Postdoctoral Scholars Reception March 12 honored the important contributions postdoctoral scholars make to the missions of research, teaching and public service at UCLA. The awardees were: Gregoire Courtine, Tracy R. Daniels, Nate Kornell, Claude Legault, Philip T. Liu and Daniel Roy Solli.... The UCLA Asian American Studies Center has received a major gift of $100,000 to establish the Martha Ogata Endowment Fund. The endowment was created by Fil D. and Tobin Barrozo, the two sons of the late Martha Ogata of California. The Ogata endowment will focus on women and children of Asian ancestry who are victims of or at risk for domestic violence or abuse.... The UCLA Center for World Languages has won a $96,574 grant from the National Foreign Language Center to create a summer 2008 language course for high school heritage speakers of Persian.... Letisia Márquez, ethnic studies representative in the Office of Media Relations, is the new president of the 155-member UCLA Latino Staff and Faculty Association. Her duties include presiding at board and general meetings and appointing the group's committees.
