Names & Faces

Christoph Bull, university organist and adjunct associate professor in the Department of Music, has been chosen to receive an ASCAPLUS Award for 2006-2007 in the concert music division. The awards, created to reflect the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers' (ASCAP) continuing commitment to assist and encourage ASCAP composers, are based upon the unique prestige value of each writer's catalog of original compositions.

Hillel Laks, professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the David Geffen School of Medicine, was awarded a distinguished UCLA Chancellor's Professorship April 30. The UC reserves the title "Chancellor's Professor" for scholars of international distinction who are recognized and respected as teachers of exceptional ability. The criteria for selecting holders of the professorships are distinguished achievement of the highest level in research, teaching and service.

Mary Jane Rotheram-Borus, Bat-Yaacov Professor of Child Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, has received a $10-million grant from the National Institute of Mental Health for five years of continued support for the Center for HIV Identification Prevention & Treatment Services. The center's mission is to enhance our understanding of HIV research and to promote early detection, effective prevention and treatment programs for HIV.
