Anthropology prof wins Cultural Horizons Prize
Jessica Cattelino, associate professor of anthropology, has been awarded the ninth annual Cultural Horizons Prize from the Society for Cultural Anthropology. The prize is awarded yearly by a jury of doctoral students to the best article appearing in Cultural Anthropology. Cattelino won it for her article
"The Double Bind of American Indian Need-Based Sovereignty" in which she discusses challenges facing the tribal sovereignty of American Indians like the Florida Seminoles.
Cattelino joined the UCLA faculty in 2008. Her research interests include sociocultural anthropology, citizenship and sovereignty, indigeneity and settler colonialism, economy and value, gender, environment, American public culture and Indian gaming.
