Big bash for Bruin parents
Fun times at Parents' Weekend 2008.
When Parents’ Weekend begins on Oct. 16, more than 3,300 Bruin parents, students and family members will converge on campus to share the best the university has to offer. From talks with deans and faculty to a virtual tailgate party for the football game versus Cal on Saturday, the event is designed for parents to experience campus life with their UCLA sons and daughters.
New and returning visitors will find unique opportunities to connect with peers, share and build Bruin pride, and discover the essential role they fill as members of the UCLA community. A welcoming and festive atmosphere will permeate the weekend, with banners and posters across campus, a huge hospitality tent on Wilson Plaza and star treatment for every participant.
For the second consecutive year, Parents’ Weekend will feature a special partnership with the Academic Advancement Program (AAP), the vital campus organization that supports student success through counseling and tutoring services, academic programs and scholarships. An open house and tours will introduce families to AAP’s mission and facilities, and “First to Go” workshops will help families learn how to prepare their Bruins to choose a major, consider graduate school and leverage the opportunities they’ll find at UCLA.

Thanks to the university’s newly created
BRUIN Parents + Families program, also an event partner this year, it will be even easier for parents and relatives to connect and find ongoing opportunities to participate in campus life.
Other Parents’ Weekend highlights include a personal welcome from Chancellor Gene Block, cultural and artistic performances, and the Bruin Family Festival, featuring dinner, music and blue-and-gold spirit that promises to rock Wilson Plaza on Friday night.
Throughout the weekend, parents will be exploring campus, discovering what it means to be a Bruin and forming impressions to last a lifetime. If you see someone looking lost or offering a tentative smile, it is probably a Parents’ Weekend participant. Please offer some guidance and a friendly handshake. Your hospitality will help make the experience of the weekend memorable and inspire continued involvement with UCLA.
