You can watch historic inauguration from campus

Obama.croppedThe inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th president of the United States on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Washington, D.C., will be a historic occasion.

It's also going to be a time for good cheer and celebration. Some departments and campus units, such as the International Institute, are hosting early-morning screenings with coffee and pastries. "We're expecting a big turnout," said German Esparza, the institute's program manager, who's getting the word out to students in interdepartmental degree programs.

To accommodate everyone in the UCLA community who wants to watch the televised ceremony live, five viewing locations will be available on campus. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. (PST), with preliminary festivities starting at 7 a.m. The ceremony is expected to conclude by 10 a.m.

Viewing sites:
  • Ackerman Union: Cooperage and Terrace Food Court
  • North Campus Student Center
  • John Wooden Center
  • UCLA Anderson's Executive Dining Room
  • Northwest Campus Auditorium

Supervisors are encouraged to grant employees sufficient release time to attend the viewing, provided that their absence would not infringe upon the performance of required job duties.
