Six early-career faculty receive 2012 Sloan Research Fellowships

Six UCLA faculty members have been selected by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to receive 2012 Sloan Research Fellowships, which are awarded annually to identify and enhance the careers of exceptional young scientists and scholars. Recipients of the fellowships, which include a $50,000 research grant for each awardee, are Leah Platt Boustan, assistant professor of economics; Neil K. Garg, assistant professor of chemistry; Jin-Hyung Lee, assistant professor of electrical engineering; John Novembre, assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology; and Sebastien Roch and Marcus Roper, assistant professors of mathematics.

The Sloan Foundation awards the fellowships in close cooperation with the scientific community. Candidates must be nominated by their peers and are subsequently selected by an independent panel of senior scholars. This year, fellowships were awarded to a select group of 126 scientists and scholars at 51 universities in the United States and Canada.
